The littlest pirate

In all of my diligent finishing, I had one not started project that I had promised months ago that I had to fit in. So, really, when you think about it, it was a UFO of sorts. When my brother told me that he and his wife were expecting he had one request. He wanted a skull and crossbones hat for his baby. I sat on the request because we didn't know if the baby was a boy or a girl.
The day Baby S was born I went out and bought two skeins of Aurora 8: one in bright blue and the other in hottttt pink. Trying to be good, I resisted casting on until her sweater was finished. As you may remember that was finished in the airport on the way out to meet her, so the skull and crossbones hat was cast on during my flight. I got almost through the intarsia by the time the plane landed (there had been some ripping out and fiddling with the hem which I knitted first instead of adding later). I finished it that night, but ripped back the next morning to make it a smidge larger in hopes that she could wear it longer.
Here it is in more true color:
The specs
Pattern: The chart was taken from Hello Yarn's We Call Them Pirates hat. I cast on 64 stitches with a worsted weight yarn. The end product was about 13"-14" in circumference.
Yarn: Aurora 8. Lovely yarn, except that the blue bled all over my hands. I soaked and rinsed the heck out of it before leaving NYC. I should have taken a picture of the water. A brighter blue you have not seen. Hopefully it doesn't give her a ring of blue.
Started: September 29
Finished: September 30
As far as cheating on my finishing UFOs project goes, it was barely a blip. A mere flirtation with yarn. A wink. Plus, what was I going to do: deny my niece the chance to toughen up her baby image? Not likely. When you are that cute, you need something to let the world know that you are serious. (Although check out those fists! She's coming out swinging.)

That is cuter than a tub full of ducks in tutus! And the baby is soooooo adorable too.

I forgot....
Lost was great and my favorite line came from Charlie when he told Locke, "You're not taking drugs are you, John? I only ask because of this strict zero-tolerance policy you've enacted. I wouldn't want you to have to start punching yourself in the face."
Ha ha ha!!!
